Screen recordings and iCloud

Screen recordings are large, so their video stays on the device that imported it. Everything else about the project, including its look and its preview image, syncs to your other devices as usual.

#Open a recording on another device

On a device that doesn’t have the video, the project appears in your library with its preview, and the editor says This recording isn’t on this device. You can still change its look.

To play or export it on this device, add the video:

1. Get the recording onto this device, for example with AirDrop or iCloud Photos.

2. In the editor, tap or click Choose Video, then choose the recording.

The project reconnects to the video, keeping all its settings.

#Why recordings don’t sync

Syncing recordings would quickly fill your iCloud storage. Keeping the video on one device means a project made from a long recording takes up no more iCloud space than a screenshot.
