PNG, JPEG and transparency

Frames exports images as PNG by default. You can switch to JPEG for much smaller files.

#Choose PNG or JPEG

  1. Open Settings in Frames, then go to Exporting.

  2. Turn Export as JPEG on or off:

    • Off (PNG): Lossless, so every pixel is exact. Files are larger.
    • On (JPEG): Much smaller files, with slightly lower quality.

The setting applies everywhere an image leaves Frames: sharing, saving, Quick Frame, Group exports, the share sheet and Shortcuts.

#Transparent backgrounds

JPEG can’t store transparency, so a project with a transparent background is always exported as PNG, even with Export as JPEG turned on. In a Group export, this means some files may be PNG and others JPEG.

App Store screenshots can’t be transparent, so a transparent background on an App Store canvas size is exported on white.
