Change the background

Every project has a background behind the device. You can choose a solid color, a gradient, a wallpaper, your own image, or no background at all.

#Choose a background

  1. In the editor, go to the Background section. On iPhone, tap Style first.

  2. Choose a kind of background at the top of the section:

    • Solid: Choose one of 17 colors, or the checkerboard for no background.
    • Gradient: Choose one of 17 gradients.
    • More: Choose a macOS wallpaper, your screenshot blurred behind itself, or, on iPhone and iPad, the album artwork of whatever you’re playing in Music.
    • Custom: Tap or click Upload Image, then choose an image. To remove it, use the remove button on its preview.

The preview updates as soon as you choose.

#Use no background

Choose the checkerboard in Solid. The framed device is exported on a transparent background, as a PNG.

App Store screenshots can’t be transparent, so on an App Store canvas size, a transparent background is exported on white instead. See Set the canvas size.

#Blur the background

When the background is a wallpaper or your own image (including album artwork), you can turn on Blur Background to throw it out of focus, so it doesn’t compete with the screenshot.

#Use album artwork from Music

On iPhone and iPad, choose More, then choose the album artwork option. The first time, allow Frames to access your music. Frames reads only the artwork of the song you’re playing, or the one you played last.

The artwork becomes part of the project, like an image you upload. It isn’t available on Mac.
