Troubleshooting

If a transparent video plays on black

When a recording has a transparent background, Frames exports a video that keeps its transparency. Not every app can show it, and those that can’t show black instead.

#Where transparency works

Transparent videos from Frames are QuickTime movies using HEVC with an alpha channel. They show their transparency in:

  • QuickTime Player
  • Keynote
  • Final Cut Pro

Most social apps, websites and Windows video players don’t support transparent video, so they show a black background.

#Get a video that looks right everywhere

  1. Open the recording in Frames.

  2. In the Background section, choose a color, gradient, wallpaper or image instead of no background. See Change the background.

  3. Export the video again.

GIFs can’t store partial transparency, so a GIF from a transparent project is exported on white.
