Screen recordings

Export a screen recording as a video or GIF

When a framed recording looks right, export it as a video to share anywhere, or as an animated GIF.

#Export a recording

  1. Open the recording in the editor.

  2. Tap or click the Share button, then choose one of the following:

    • Export Video: A QuickTime video (.mov), with sound unless the project is muted.
    • Export GIF: An animated GIF, without sound. GIFs cover up to the first 10 seconds of a recording.
  3. Wait for the export to finish. On iPhone and iPad, stay in Frames while it exports. You can cancel at any time.

  4. Save or share the finished file.

The Share menu also lets you share the framed image of the recording as a still.

#Transparent video

If the background is transparent, the video keeps its transparency. It shows correctly in QuickTime Player, Keynote and Final Cut Pro, but most social apps and Windows players show black instead. GIFs are exported on white. See If a transparent video plays on black.

#Frames Pro

Exporting a recording as a video or GIF is part of Frames Pro. Without Frames Pro, each export uses one of your free Pro exports. An export you cancel doesn’t use one. See Your free Pro exports.

Sharing the framed still image is always free.
