Frame screenshots
How Frames matches your device
You never have to tell Frames which device took a screenshot. It works it out from the screenshot’s exact size in pixels, which is different for almost every model.
#When more than one device fits
Some devices share a screen size. For example, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro take screenshots of exactly the same size. When that happens, Frames picks one, and you can switch to another in the editor’s Device menu. Only devices that fit your screenshot are listed.
Once you choose a device and color for a screenshot size, Frames remembers it. The next screenshot of that size is framed the same way, whether you add it in the app, with Quick Frame, from the share sheet or with Shortcuts. Choose a different one and it becomes the new default.
#Zoomed displays
Some settings change the size of a screenshot:
- iPhone with Display Zoom turned on: Frames recognizes zoomed screenshots taken on the iPhone it’s running on. A zoomed screenshot from a different iPhone may not match.
- iPad with More Space turned on: Frames recognizes these on any device, because they keep the shape of the iPad’s screen.
- Mac: A Mac can take screenshots at many sizes, depending on its display settings, so Frames matches Mac screenshots by their shape instead. Only landscape screenshots are matched to a Mac or display.
#Screen recordings
Screen recordings are matched the same way. Recordings from older iPhone models, or from older versions of iOS, are often made at a smaller size than the screen, and Frames recognizes those too. See Frame a screen recording.
#Orientation
A landscape screenshot is shown in a device turned on its side. To turn the device a different way, turn on Override Orientation in the editor, then choose an orientation.
#If nothing matches
If no device fits, the editor shows No Frame Found and the screenshot appears without a device. The most common cause is a screenshot that was cropped or resized after it was taken. See If Frames says “No Frame Found”.
